Barrington rallies past Stevenson
Abby Kirchoff felt bad that she accidentally sent her sister Anna to the sideline Tuesday.
At Barrington's practice, Abby was guarding Anna when she poked her in the eye.
Abby made up for it later, as she scored 17 of her career-high 22 points in the second half to help rally Barrington from a 13-point deficit to edge Stevenson 62-58 at Lake Zurich in the Chicago Holiday Basketball Classic.
"I decided I should pick up my game a little bit since Anna is a starter and helps the team a lot," Abby said.
The Fillies (10-4, 1-2) trailed 53-46 with 3:33 remaining in the game but outscored the Patriots 16-5 the rest of the way.
Abby Kirchoff's 3-pointer from the top of the key put Barrington up 54-53 with 2:24 left. It was the first lead for the Fillies since the opening quarter.
Barrington also played without Brooke Chandor, who suffered an ankle injury in practice Monday.
"We've been down in some games but not that far," Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro said. "We've been playing some good teams lately. We came out with a lack of emotion and Stevenson took full advantage of it. We didn't execute at all in the first half.
"We had an emotional talk at halftime. They pulled together and have done that in some other circumstances this year."
Jenny Schnack and Sarah Mass each added 13 points for the Fillies.
Stevenson (5-7, 0-3) held a 30-19 lead at the half.
"For us to give up 3 points in the second quarter and 20 points in the third quarter is disappointing," Stevenson coach Trish Betthauser said. "We defended that well and just gave things up. We just lost track of what was going on. We've got to be an intelligent team and make things happen."
Michelle O'Brien led Stevenson with 15 points and Anna Morrissey added 14.
