3 vie for open St. Charles school board seat
Three candidates applied for an open seat on the St. Charles school board and will be interviewed publicly Wednesday.
School District 303 officials Thursday identified the candidates as Brian Litteral, Lynne O'Shea Nelleman and Michael Vyzral. Each is seeking to replace Bob Lindahl, who resigned from the board Nov. 20 and moved to Wisconsin.
Board President Kathy Hewell said the candidates will interview at a 6 p.m. meeting Wednesday at the administrative office, 201 S. Seventh St. The board is expected to deliberate in closed session after the interviews, then vote on a final selection in public.
"We're interested in people who have kept up with Summit 303 so they're up to date and able to deliberate when the board discusses a possible referendum in January," Hewell said, referring to a series of community meetings that culminated this week with a recommendation to rebuild or renovate all of District 303's 17 buildings.
This is the third time in as many years that the school board has had to fill a vacancy. In the last two cases, Hewell said she felt conducting public interviews helped open up the process to taxpayers.
"It's good for the public to know what their views are," she said.
