Schaumburg Library holds blood drive
In an effort to help restock the dwindling supply of blood at LifeSource Blood Center, the Schaumburg Township District Library will hold a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Youth Services classroom of the library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.
To donate blood, you must weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good physical health, be at least 17 years old and have not given blood in the past eight weeks.
Sign up by contacting Susan Miura, the library's public relations coordinator, at (847) 923-3120. Walk-ins are welcome as well. LifeSource will sponsor a prize drawing for a $25 gas card. All those who donate blood are eligible to enter.
Mittens and toys for needy children
Annual traditions continue this year at the South Barrington Park District through holiday collections of mittens and toys for needy children.
The park district has once again placed a Mitten Tree in the Community Center lobby. Donations of mittens and gloves are being accepted through Saturday, Dec. 13. Donated items will be delivered to a children's shelter in time for the holidays.
The park district is also serving as a Toys for Tots drop off location, supporting this worthwhile program sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps. New, unwrapped toys are being accepted through Dec. 18.
All donations can be dropped off during business hours at the South Barrington Community Center or the South Barrington Club, both at 3 Tennis Club Lane, in South Barrington. For information about these events, visit sbpd.net.
