Juveniles arrested in robbery
Glendale Heights police arrested two juveniles on charges of aggravated robbery, unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated assault and theft after they allegedly were armed with a knife and robbed a pizza delivery person Monday, police said. They fled the area on foot with two pizzas before police arrived, but were located shortly after, police said. Both have been transported to the DuPage County Youth Home. No injuries were reported, police said.
Pampered Chef honored
Addison-based The Pampered Chef was among 17 companies presented with the American Cancer Society's Corporate Impact Awards during its annual meeting in New York City. The award recognizes financial and in-kind contributions of at least $1 million during the previous calendar year. For the past eight years, The Pampered Chef has shared breast cancer information and awareness reminders with customers by selling pink products at "Help Whip Cancer" cooking shows, raising more than $6 million for the society. In 2007, the company's consultants raised an additional $160,000-plus for the society, through involvement with Relay For Life, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, Golf and Galas and Daffodil Days.
Coat drive to help needy
Gently worn, clean coats, hats, scarves and gloves are being collected through Dec. 12 to give to Aurora students and senior citizens in need. The drive is being conducted by Second Ward Alderman Juany Garza, Seventh Ward Alderman Scheketa Hart-Burns and the city's Youth Services Department. Items may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Youth and Sports Activities Department, 501 College Ave., Suite 304, or at the aldermen's office, 60 E. Downer Place. Those unable to drop the donations off may call (630) 264-8266 to ask about coat pickup.
