Wauconda rallies past Vernon Hills
Wauconda's girls basketball team remained undefeated Tuesday night.
But the Bulldogs had to pull off a big rally to do it.
Wauconda outscored visiting Vernon Hills 18-4 in the fourth quarter to capture a 52-48 win in the two teams' North Suburban Prairie Division opener.
Kate Martino had 15 points and 5 rebounds, and Tammy Ellis added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals for Wauconda (5-0). Lauren Mead had 8 points and 5 boards in the win.
Vernon Hills (1-5) was led by Mallory Feece, who had 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals. She had the Cougars' lone 4 points in the final quarter.
Jamie Rucks added 11 points (two 3-pointers), while Alana Coy chipped in 6 points and 6 assists. Jessica Feece had 6 points and 4 assists.
Round Lake 54, North Chicago 45: Labrenthia Murdock scored 22 points, including two 3-pointers, as the Panthers won their North Suburban Prairie Division opener.
Amber Phillips added 14 points for Round Lake (5-0).
Carmel 67, Marian Central 20: The Corsairs cruised in the nonconference game, as Tiffany Hendrickson and Lauren Lehocky scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.
Stevenson 54, Zion-Benton 39: Michelle O'Brien's 17 points paced three players in double figures for the Patriots in the North Suburban Lake Division opener.
Kayla Fisher added 12 points for Stevenson (4-1) and Anna Morrissey had 11.
Mundelein 64, Lakes 20: J.J. Sawchuk scored 19 points, and Toni Knar and Jessi Bjerning added 10 each, as the Mustangs (6-0) cruised in the North Suburban crossover.
Jacobs 56, Grayslake Central 48: The Rams lost the Fox Valley crossover, despite 13 points from Maddy Miller.
Grayslake Central also received 10 points apiece from Alex Scarbro and Megan LeBaron.
Cary-Grove 65, Grayslake North 28: The Knights got 10 points from Kinsey Siler in their Fox Valley crossover loss.
