BG's DiPrima delivers at buzzer; Conant wins

Junior sharpshooter Andrea DiPrima hit a 3-pointer with no time remaining to lift Buffalo Grove's girls basketball team to a dramatic 50-49 victory at Palatine on Tuesday night in the Mid-Suburban League crossover.

Bison rookie coach Pat Dudle called a timeout with 5.5 seconds left after Palatine went ahead 49-47 on a free throw.

On the Bison's final play, DiPrima (12 points) took the inbound pass from KC Dunne (12 points) and ran off screens from Stacey Lialios and Kelly Mahoney (6 points) to toss up-the game-winning shot.

Kaitlin Hillner added 10 points for the Bison (3-3) while Katie MacFabe led Palatine (2-4) with 17 points and teammate Katie Mnichowicz added 9.

Prospect 51, Fremd 43: Sarah Winans (9 points), Rachel Hunt (9 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocked shots), Sarah Hunt (6 points, 6 rebounds), Lexi Glennon (8 points, 3 steals), Alyssa Glennon (6 points, 5 assists) and Danielle Brucci (7 points) were top contributors for the Knights (6-1) in the MSL crossover.

"It was a good win for us," said Prospect coach Martha Kelly. "Fremd is a very good team. Taylor Glassman (8 points) and Gianna Abruzzzo (10 points) do a great job of going to the basket and we had to stop them."

Kelly felt her team played outstanding defense in the Vikings' gymnasium.

"We forced them to shoot from the outside," she said. "And they made them."

Katie Hetzner and Sam Thelin each had two 3-pointers for Fremd (4-2) while Abruzzo had one.

Conant 48, Elk Grove 42: Junior Ashley Lindeman and senior Emma Loos each scored 14 points for host Conant (5-1) while senior Lauren Jason added 7.

Elk Grove (2-4) was paced by Ashley Capotosto's season-high 30 points. The 6-foot junior forward was 8-of-9 from the free-throw line with 11 field goals.

Barrington 45, Rolling Meadows 35: Coming off its Bison Classic championship, Barrington improved to 6-0 behind 6-foot senior forward Jenny Schnack's 16 points.

"Jenny played a great all-around game," said Fillies coach Babbi Barreiro. "She was all over the place offensively and defensively. She made great cuts to the basket and made a lot of good things happen for us."

Senior Anna Kirchoff added 11 points while sophomore Abby Kirchoff collected 6 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Sarah Mass had 7 rebounds and Sarah Reindl added 8 points and 3 rebounds.

"Brooke Chandor (5-10 sophomore) came off the bench and did some real nice things for us," Barreiro added "She gave us good defense and got some rebounds."

Visiting Rolling Meadows (2-4) was led by Kelly Adair (10 points), Kelly Zahorski (9) and Maddy Urban (8).

Hersey 56, Schaumburg 47: Sophomore Megan Rogowski matched her average of 23 points per game while Maddie Swan (13 points, 6 rebounds), Kelly Rogowski (10 points, 4 steals) and Julia Fredian (10 points, 5 rebounds) also reached double figures for the visiting Huskies (4-1).

Junior Andrea Perkins also had 4 steals for Hersey.

Junior Taylor Kosla led Schaumburg (2-4) with 16 points while Sarah Kellermeyer added 10 before leaving the game in the third quarter with a bruised muscle. Saxons coach Bill Murmann expects the 6-foot senior forward to be ready for Friday night's MSL West opener with visiting Barrington.

Glenbrook S. 45, Maine W. 37: Senior Kelsey Hargesheimer led Maine West (3-2) with 8 points while freshman Amanda Hoye was 3-of-3 from the field with 7 points, including a 3-pointer in the Central Suburban League crossover.

"We're bringing Amanda along," said Maine West coach Derril Kipp. "She played very well."

Warriors junior Ellen Coogan (6 points) grabbed 10 rebounds while classmate Megan O'Neill had 6 points and 5 rebounds.

Junior Sam Acosta scored 6 points with 3 assists and senior point guard Shaina Yalda added a pair of assists with 4 points.

The host Warriors trailed most of the game and were down by as many as 8 in the second half before pulling to within 34-33.

But South pulled away again at the end, making 4 of 5 free throws in the final quarter.
