Briefs: Clerk sends out checks
Checks for Will County election judges who served in the Nov. 4 general election were mailed Monday, Nov. 24, county Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots said. Election judges who do not receive their checks by Dec. 15 should call either (815) 740-4617 or (815) 740-4618.
Donations for veterans
The Elmhurst Elks will play host to disabled veterans from Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital on Thanksgiving Day at Roselle American Legion Post 1084. Donations and volunteers are being accepted. Veterans will receive goody bags filled with lap blankets, socks, sweatshirts, underwear and toiletries as they share a holiday meal. Roselle yard waste
Roselle's yard waste collections are scheduled to end Wednesday, Nov. 26. All yard waste must be placed in paper compostable bags not exceeding 30 gallons and bags must have a yard waste sticker attached. Stickers can be purchased at village hall, 31 S. West Chicago police award
The West Chicago Police Department earned recognition from the National Association of Town Watch for its participation in the 19th annual National Night Out in August. West Chicago placed 15th out of the 15,449 communities that were involved in the category for cities with populations of 15,000 to 49,999.
Adopt a family
The Glen Ellyn Junior Woman's Club is looking for volunteers to adopt families as part of its 59th annual Adopt a Family Christmas Baskets program, which involves volunteers providing items for 150 families in need. By adopting a family, small or large, volunteers would provide gifts for each member. So far the group has adopted about 75 families, but still needs to adopt 90 more by Monday. The drop-off date for all gifts is Dec. 11, and they'll be delivered Dec. 13. For details, call (630) 690-6292.
