Dist. 95 parents get home access to kids' grades

The Lake Zurich Unit District 95 Educational Foundation Tuesday unveiled the eSchool Home Access Center, the foundation's latest donation to the schools. The nearly $20,000 technology enhancement works with the school district's current student management systems to allow parents and guardians 24-hour access to their child's grades for fifth through 12th grades, attendance and disciplinary data, class schedule, homework and other information. The technology was purchased with the help of educational foundation chairman John Sfire and his wife, Bobbi. "With this new access, parents can work more proactively with their child and the teacher to ensure the child's success in school," District 95 Superintendent Brian Knutson said. With the system, parents no longer have to wait for progress reports or a parent-teacher conference in order to know how well their child is performing in school. The technology is currently being tested with a small group of teachers at Lake Zurich High School and a team of teachers at Lake Zurich Middle School South. It is expected to be available districtwide by next school year. The not-for-profit, independent educational foundation is an outgrowth of the school district's strategic plan.
