Aurora man charged with child abduction
A 21-year-old Aurora man has been charged with child abduction, endangering the life or health of a child, aggravated assault, and two counts of domestic battery after an incident late Monday.
Stephen A. Haines, of the 900 block of South Lake Street, was charged after the incident at his home that started about 10 p.m.
Police said Haines grabbed a year-old girl out of the hands of an 18-year-old woman after a verbal altercation, pushed the woman into a wall and then left his home with the child.
When the woman tried to stop him, police said he threatened her with a pistol that later turned out to be a BB gun, and ran from the scene.
Police arrested Haines about 1 a.m. Tuesday after they saw him holding the child as he walked through some backyards in his neighborhood.
The child was treated at the scene, for minor scratches, by Aurora Fire Department paramedics.
