Naperville police investigate apparent carjacking

Naperville police are searching for three suspects and a black Jeep Patriot they believe were involved in a Wednesday carjacking.

Cmdr. Dave Hoffman said an 18-year-old man had just pulled out of his garage about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of Chalet Road when he was approached by three men in the Jeep.

One of the suspects, described as "large and heavyset," displayed and then struck the victim in the head with a semi-automatic handgun. The suspects then took the victim's vehicle, a white 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, and both vehicles were last seen heading east on Ogden Avenue from Chalet Road.

Hoffman said it is not yet known whether the suspects knew the victim or why they wanted his car.

"Any connection between the victim and the offenders is still under investigation," he said Wednesday evening. The victim was transported to Edward Hospital in Naperville with non life-threatening injuries.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has information of any kind concerning it, is asked to contact the Investigations Section at (630) 420-6726, or call the Naperville Crime Stoppers Hotline at (630) 420-6006.
