Wauconda man dies in Fox Lake accident

An 87-year-old Wauconda man died as a result of a car accident Friday on Route 59 in Fox Lake.

Charles Rothermel's vehicle crossed the center lane on Route 59 near Rollins Road. He was alone in the car. Rothermel's car hit a guard rail and another vehicle at about 3:30 p.m. Friday. Rothermel was pronounced dead at the scene at 5 p.m., Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Saturday.

The passengers in the vehicle that Rothermel hit did not suffer major injuries, Keller said.

Route 59 was closed during the investigation conducted by the Fox Lake Police Department. The department would not release further details about the crash.
