Oswego man charged in second Aurora murder of 2008

A 21-year-old Oswego man has been charged with murder, armed robbery and home invasion in connection with Tuesday's shooting on Aurora's near west side that resulted in the death of a 33-year-old Aurora man.

Anthony Ortiz, of the 100 block of Wilson Place, remains under police guard at an Aurora hospital after being shot in the chest and shoulder during the incident.

Police said he forced his way into a home in the 200 block of North Chestnut Street with another man about 7:20 p.m. intent on robbing the residents at gunpoint.

Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the pair beat three of the six men who were home at the time.

During the fight, shots were fired, one of which struck and killed Mario Vasquez, 33, of the 200 block of Beach Street. Another shot struck Ortiz.

Two Aurora men, ages 37 and 29, and a 20-year-old man from North Aurora, were treated and released Tuesday night for injuries they sustained at the hands of the suspects. The two older men were in police custody for a short time as they were questioned about the incident, but were released without charges.

Another 31-year-old Aurora man was in the home at the time of the alleged robbery but was uninjured.

Ferrelli said detectives are searching for the other suspect and one other resident of the house who fled before police arrived.
