Briefs: Mundelein parks planning

The Mundelein Park and Recreation District board of commissioners and staff will meet at 8 a.m. today at the Regent Center, 1200 Regent Drive, to begin its strategic long-range planning process. The Regent Center is in the Cambridge Country North subdivision off Midlothian Road between Hawley Street and Route 60/83, Mundelein. The meeting will involves future plans and be facilitated by an independent parks consultant. Ongoing community input will be sought and advisory committees formed as part of the effort to create master plans. Respondents to a recent communitywide survey said purchasing or preserving open space were of most interest for the future. To review the survey, visit www.mundeleinparks.org.

Gurnee cops offer reward

Gurnee police say they are offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of individuals responsible for making a threat that led to the dismissal of students at the Almond Road upperclassmen campus Friday morning. All after-school activities at Almond also were scrapped Friday. Officials said the supposed threat was not credible.

Veteran appreciation breakfast

Students at Hawthorn Middle South in Vernon Hills are inviting local veterans to the second annual Breakfast of Appreciation at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10. The breakfast gives students the opportunity to honor our local heroes, thank them for their dedication to our nation, and learn about their history. School board information

Oak Grove School administrators and board members will host an information meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10 for residents who would like to know more about the school district and the process for running for a seat on the board of education. Four seats will be open in the April election. The meeting will be in the junior high learning center, 1700 S. O'Plaine Road, Green Oaks. Call Superintendent Janice Matthews, (847) 996-1400.

Budget meeting

The Libertyville village board will meet as a committee of the whole at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11 to review the five-year financial plan and consider the preliminary 2009-10 budget. Trustees have been told the village faces a shortfall of up to $500,000 in sales tax revenue and is considering cuts. The meeting is at the village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave.
