Sullivan retains seat in House Dist. 51

History repeated itself Tuesday in the 51st Distict when Republican state Rep. Ed Sullivan beat Democratic challenger Amanda Howland to retain his seat in the Capitol. Sullivan, of Mundelein, defeated Howland, a lawyer from Lake Zurich, two years ago as well. With ballots in all 90 precincts in Lake and Cook counties counted, unofficial results showed Sullivan with 31,002 votes and Howland with 21,650 votes. The vote totals do not include provisional and late-arriving absentee ballots. The likely win gives Sullivan, who also serves as Fremont Township's assessor, a fourth term in Springfield. The 51st District includes much of central and southern Lake County and a small part of Cook County.
