Schaumburg library leader lauded

Barbara Adrianopoli, director of extension services for the Schaumburg Township District Library, won the John Philip Award for outstanding contributions and prominent leadership by an individual in Bookmobile and Outreach Services. Presented Oct. 10, the award was given by the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services at the association's annual conference in Ohio. Recipients demonstrate leadership in the field, behind-the-scenes service and have a unique impact in the field and a willingness to mentor others and their knowledge and experience.

• John Hersey High School senior Kaylee Horan was elected Honorary National Junior President of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Horan who will represent almost 20,000 national junior auxiliary members at American Legion events held in Illinois and elsewhere, most recently served as Central Division Junior Vice President. She will continue her volunteer work at the Arlington Heights American Legion Unit 208 on service projects to benefit war veterans, the community and U.S. troops currently serving overseas.

As president, Horan's special project will be fundraising activities for the construction of Fisher House near Hines VA hospital in Hines. Fisher homes are built for families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers around the country.

• Carolyn Coppedge of Northbrook performed in Steve Martin's "Picasso at the Lapin Agile," which played at Denison University for seven performances in October. Coppedge, a member of the Denison class of 2009, portrayed The Countess in the play.

• The Illinois Chapter of the National School Public Relations Association presented Awards of Excellence to Matt Fuller, former technology director, and Terrace Elementary School LMC specialist Erin Smith for the District 62 "Rain forest" video; an Award of Excellence to Matt Fuller for the District 62 "Kindergarten Handbook"; Awards of Merit to Matt Fuller and Mindy Ward for the district's community newsletter "Partners in Education"; an Award of Merit to Mindy Ward, director of community relations, for the School District 62 "Board Briefs"; and an Award of Merit to Mindy Ward for her article entitled, "PBIS Promotes Positive Learning Environments."
