Why teachers campaign for McGuire
According to an Oct. 16 memo to members, NUEA President Dave Griffith called for District 203 teachers to work the phones for Dianne McGuire. So much for working on lesson plans and grading homework during election time. In the memo, Griffith says, "Dianne needs our help. The Illinois Republican Party is using Dianne's NUEA leadership against her.
They are focusing on our strike in 1991 charging that Dianne used Naperville children as hostages. Dianne stood up for all of us, and the fact is our benefits and salary today are due in large part to her leadership at that time." The Illinois Education Association and the Illinois Federation of Teachers have contributed $29,000 to McGuire's campaign. These two unions know full well that McGuire will cater to their best interests as a state representative. And for Naperville taxpayers who might have noticed a slight increase in their property tax bill over the past 20 years, you know full well the result of Dianne McGuire's NUEA "leadership."
