Froehlich is good to have in hard times

My husband and I have known state Rep. Paul Froehlich about 10 years, and we have never received a dime from the gentleman nor do we aspire to seek any office, thus I can speak from an unbiased point of view.

I have seen Rep. Froehlich work hard and be fiscally responsible with the taxpayer's hard-earned dollars, representing his district well.

Years ago he was a high school history teacher, and has a deep caring interest in the families of the community truly at heart. That is just one of the things I have learned about him over the years.

As I listen to him, this is not a mainly a position but a chance to speak out for the community. It seems to be sort of a mission to him. He has always tried to make a difference. He is truly one of our more grass roots leaders, not wealthy or greedy. He and his hard working wife lead a modest life.

If we lose this person, the people will lose a lot, for he is truly a brilliant, extremely qualified and knowledgeable, kindly scholar and leader, a very good person.

Let us not discourage people like Mr. Froehlich from entering into the political arena. Politics is a hard and often nasty game, and particularly so for intelligent, not wealthy grass roots people. Life can be made excruciatingly unpleasant for those who do not vote the way others want, who vote instead with their heads, hearts, and feelings for their community.

Let us not let those who are hungry for name recognition or power succeed in using a decent person as "the enemy" to further less worthy causes. Mr. Froehlich is a big man in mind and heart. He has held himself accountable for his decisions.

To date he has left a large, good footprint in this community. I find it extremely disappointing when we lose such as Mr. Froehlich's representation, and we so desperately need it, particularly in these times of worsening distress. I am glad we have him on board now.
