Briefs: Event to aid DUI victims

Hundreds of people will gather Sunday, Nov. 2, for the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists' 18th annual luncheon at the Westin Hotel in Itasca. The Schaumburg-based AAIM has raised more than $500,000 for victims who have suffered financial devastation due to uninsured drunken drivers. Besides raising money, the Schaumburg-based AAIM also hosts the annual event to recognize those police officers across Illinois who have made the most DUI arrests in the past year. For more information on how to help AAIM, visit their Web site at www.aaim1.org or call (847) 240-0027.

Wounded soldier receives help:

Army Sgt. Zachary McDonalds of Wood Dale was home on leave and received a check in the amount of $4,521.36 during an Oct. 30 presentation at the Wood Dale VFW Post 2149. His family attended the event when the check was presented by Robert Cannella, Wood Dale VFW commander, and Bob Vargas, chaplain of Glendale Heights 2377. The two posts combined community donations as well as funds from the auxiliaries, schools and local businesses. McDonalds is still in rehab for wounds he suffered in Iraq.
