Lakemoor woman gets probation in Camp Duncan theft
A Lakemoor woman was sentenced to four years on probation Tuesday after she admitted stealing $20,000 from a YMCA camp.
Linda Weber, 38, will have to repay the camp at least $500 per month until the debt is satisfied or she could be jailed for 18 months.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Marykay Foy said Weber was the business manager for YMCA Camp Duncan in Ingleside from November 2005 to November 2006.
She was fired after admitting she stole three $200 Costco gift cards from the organization.
A complete audit of the books was ordered, and the missing money was discovered, Foy said. Weber admitted stealing the funds when questioned by police.
Associate Judge Christopher Stride accepted a plea agreement under which Weber agreed to serve 18 months in jail if she fails to pay at least $500 per month in restitution.
Weber told Stride she was making a $2,500 payment toward the debt Tuesday, and she had also agreed not to take control of anyone else's finances while on probation.
If convicted after a trial, Weber could have faced up to seven years in prison.
