St. Viator wraps up with win at St. Joe
St. Viator ended its season on a high note Saturday, dumping St. Joseph 39-12 in East Suburban Catholic Conference play in Westchester. Despite the win, the Lions finished 4-5 overall and just missed qualifying for the state playoffs.
"This is a great way to go out," said Dan Faerber, who is a senior. "We didn't reach all our goals, but I wouldn't trade these guys for anything."
The Lions jumped all over St. Joseph, forcing 6 turnovers. Julian Sipiora turned the first two of those into scores as he ran 11 yards for 1 touchdown and threw a 26-yard scoring pass to Kevin Hulsebosch.
"We just came out more focused today," said Sipiora, who was 14-of-26 for 223 yards.
Jon Sandmeir booted a pair of field goals as the Lions built an 18-0 halftime advantage.
After St. Joseph returned a fumble for a touchdown, Sipiora connected with Richard McLoughlin on a 36 yard touchdown. Sipiora would later score on a quarterback sneak and Anthony Ferrazzuolo had an 18-yard interception return for the Lions.
"I am really happy for the seniors," St. Viator coach Chris Kirkpatrick said. "This was their day and I am glad they are able to enjoy it."
Deerfield 45, Maine West 0: Maine West (2-7, 1-4) fell in the Central Suburban North game at Deerfield (5-4, 3-2) postponed from Friday because of inclement weather.
