Briefs: Halloween in Hainesville

Trick-or-treating hours in the village of Hainesville are set for 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 31. The village also will offer hayrides for residents. There will not be a cost for the hayride, but participants are asked to donate nonperishable canned goods for the Avon Township Food Pantry at the hayride sites. Rides are 4 to 5 p.m. on Centennial Drive, behind the village hall; 5:15 to 6:15 p.m. at Brittany Park; and 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Antler Park. Adult supervision is required for the hayride. Township invites residents to recycle:

Wauconda Township will hold its monthly electronic recycling event on Saturday, 9 a.m. to noon, at the township's highway department, 505 W. Bonner Road. The collection takes place the first Saturday of each month and is open to all township residents. For information, call the township office at (847) 526-2631.

Free shredding:

Baxter Credit Union will hold its first "Shred Day" on Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon, at its Vernon Hills branch, 340 N. Milwaukee Ave. The public is invited to bring two boxes of their personal financial documents for free and secure on-the-spot disposal, which will take place in the parking lot with professional shredding vehicles. Identity theft affects as many as 9 million U.S residents each year, according to the company. Visit www.bcu.org.

Avoid tax delinquency:

Lake County property owners are reminded that tax bills must be paid by Nov. 4 to avoid further delinquencies. Taxpayers with any outstanding 2007 taxes due are required to be notified by certified mail. To avoid taxes going to sale, all payments must be made by Nov. 26. Any payment received after Nov. 7 must be in certified funds, cash, certified check or money order. Job search help offered:

Resources for finding a job will be available free from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 25, at Kingswood United Methodist Church, 401 W. Dundee Road, Buffalo Grove, as one of many local events that are part of the national Make a Difference Day. Topics include how to access job banks, networking, interviewing techniques, writing a resume and childcare options for working parents. Professionals from a variey of local agencies and the Illinois Employment and Training Center will be available.

Election packets available:

Nominating papers for three 4-year trustee positions on the Buffalo Grove village board are currently available at village hall, 50 Raupp Boulevard. The packets are available between 8 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The completed petitions may be filed from 8 a.m. Jan. 19 through 5 p.m. Jan. 26. The trustee seats for Jeff Braiman, Bruce Kahn and Brian Rubin are all up for election.
