Fall rhythms by ECC Concert Band
Ragtime, waltzes, jazz, pop and other rhythms will be performed by the Elgin Community College (ECC) Concert Band during "A Potpourri of Popular Music," a fall concert held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, in the ECC Visual and Performing Arts Center Blizzard Theatre, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.
Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for students and seniors. Tickets are available online at elgin.edu/arts or at the ECC box office located in the Arts Center. Box office hours are noon to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and noon to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. To purchase tickets by phone, call 847-622-0300.
Staff Development Day closes library
On Friday, Oct. 24, the Palatine Public Library District will be closed for Staff Development Day. This includes the main library and the Freeman Road and Rand Road branches. The main library and Freeman Road branch will reopen 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, and resume its regular schedule. The Rand Road Brach will reopen Monday, Oct. 27 and resume its regular schedule.
Gala benefits senior services in Palatine
The Palatine Township Senior Citizens Council will host its annual Caring Hearts Gala, "Journey to Oz," from 6 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. The event will be held at Cotillion Banquets, 360 S. Creekside Dr., Palatine. Proceeds benefit the programs and services provided by the council. Tickets are $125. For more information, call (847) 991-1112 or go to ptscc.org.
Connecting seniors with students
Senior citizens in Schaumburg Township and surrounding communities are invited to an open house for the District 54 Connecting Generations Volunteer Program at 7 p.m. Nov. 13, at the Schaumburg Library, 130 S. Roselle Road in Schaumburg.
The goal of the Connecting Generations Volunteer Program is to identify the gifts and talents of senior community members and match those talents to the needs of students and schools.
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, enjoy working with children and want to help in a school, come learn about the program.
