Portable toilet arsonist hits Cary
Cary police are hot on the trail of an arsonist who has taken a liking to starting portable toilets on fire.
Ofc. Jason Ultes of the Cary Police Department said the arsonist - or arsonists - ignited a port-o-let at Lions Park South at about 10:50 p.m. Friday night. The port-o-let was damaged but not destroyed before it was extinguished by the Cary Fire Department, he said.
Then, a second port-o-let in the same park was ignited on Sunday, this time around 10:21 p.m. Ultes said the second port-o-let burnt to the ground.
"It's kind of weird," he said. "I'm really not sure why someone would want to set a portable toilet on fire."
The cost of each port-o-let comes in around $1,500, he said. Both portable toilets were owned by Hoving Pit Stop of Streamwood.
"We're following leads we have and are trying to come up with the arsonist or the arsonists," he said. "We'll find out who's doing it and put a stop to it."
If arrested, the person or persons could be charged with criminal damage to property and arson charges, Utles said.
