Woodstock humbles Jacobs

Jacobs' struggles throughout the season have stemmed from poor execution on both sides of the ball and it was evident in the Golden Eagles' 30-7 loss Friday night at Woodstock. The Golden Eagles failed to stop Blue Streaks quarterback Derek Brown's passing attack. Brown threw for 209 yards including 3 touchdowns in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game at Larry Davis Field.

"Execution. It's about consistent execution," Jacobs' coach Dean Schlueter said about what his team has struggled with most throughout the season. "There is no doubt about it. It's been that way all year. It continues to happen and we need to get better at that on both sides of the ball."

To start the game, Woodstock took advantage of a pass interference penalty on third down that allowed it to keep the ball. On the next play Brown threw a 64-yard touchdown strike to Mike Kremske.

On the very next possession for Jacobs, the Golden Eagles (1-6, 0-3) got right back in the game by also taking advantage of a pass interference penalty on third down that allowed them to keep the ball. Just as fast as the Blue Streaks scored, Jacobs' running back Dale Cook took the ball in from 63 yards out to tie the game at 7.

"It was nice to see that we were capable of putting some points on the board," Schlueter said. "It sure helped, but it wasn't enough. Not even close."

Woodstock then began to pull away. On their next possession, the Blue Streaks drove the ball 75 yards down the field to score. Brown connected once again with Kremske from 6 yards out.

A couple of possessions later the Blue Streaks (5-2, 1-1) went up two scores on a 3-yard touchdown run by Kevin Smith. Smith rushed the ball for 48 yards on 17 carries.
