Briefs: Mundelein Idol named
Shaeleigh Voitl, 10, of Bartlett, won Mundelein High School's second annual Mundelein Idol talent contest on Saturday. She beat out 30 other competitors for the title, a trophy and $400. First runner-up was Elizabeth Starck of Mundelein; second runner-up was Gracie Williams of Waukegan, who won last year's event; third runner-up was Rachel Miller of Mundelein.
Students win awards
Stevenson High School seniors Veronika Pashkina and Michelle Ran were among 1,789 students from across the country honored recently with 2008 National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards in Writing. Only 30 students from Illinois received the honors, the Lincolnshire school reported.
Concert set for Mundelein
A choral concert is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 16 at Mundelein High School and will feature several choral groups, including the mixed choir, the women's ensemble, Mundelein Lights and Mundelein Sound. A suggested donation of $3 per person will be accepted at the door.
Author at library
Local author Laura Enright will discuss the people and places in her book, "Chicago's Most Wanted: The Top 10 Book of Murderous Mobsters, Midway Monsters and Windy City Oddities," on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at the Vernon Area Public Library District, 300 Olde Half Day Road, Lincolnshire. District 103 invites Riegel to discuss book
Lincolnshire-Prairie View School District 103 will hold a Book Club and Parent Discussion Night with author Lisa Riegel at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28 at Daniel Wright Junior High School, 1370 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire. Riegel is the author of "No Parent Left Behind: A Handbook for Parents of Struggling Students." The evening provides an opportunity to talk with other parents, school staff and the author about ways to help struggling students improve, average students to excel and high achievers to reach their potential. Parents may reserve a copy of Riegel's book in advance by contacting Mary Lou Bernero at the administrative center at (847) 295-4030. The book costs $8. Books also will be available to buy at the event.
