Fireworks to celebrate Hoffman Estate High School renovation

Shooting off fireworks usually means celebrating something rather huge.

And at Hoffman Estates High School, the colorful explosions in the sky mean recognizing the completion of the school's renovations.

So at halftime during the Hawks' homecoming football game against Schaumburg High School on 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, officials will treat the crowd to a fireworks show.

Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 officials are inviting the entire community to celebrate. The fireworks will be finished by 9 p.m.

The Hoffman High staff is particularly proud of the school's new entrance that was completed before the start of the school year. It's the first thing that greets students when they enter and sets a positive tone for learning.

Overall, school officials say the year has gotten off to an excellent start. Officials report the new requirement of having students wear their school ID cards around their necks has made the school safer.

Garage sale: Village Trustee Karen Mills wants to invite residents to browse the Barrington Square Homeowners' garage sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1800 Williamsburg Drive. Mills, the manager of the square, also says they'll have voter registration during the duration of the sale.

Safely discard docs: Once more, Hofman Estates is offering residents the chance to safely discard and destroy sensitive paper documents. The event takes place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 4, at village hall, 1900 Hassell Road. Proof of residency required.

Workers will remove items for destruction from your vehicle into the shredding truck. All documents will be cross-shredded on-site in a secure manner and then recycled. The service is co-sponsored by the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County and the village. Only personal documents will be accepted. For more information on document destruction, contact the Village Manager's office at (847) 781-2600.
