Trooper injured in Woodstock cycle accident

An Illinois State Trooper on a motorcycle was injured Thursday after colliding with a work van on Route 47, south of Route 176 in Woodstock.

Illinois State Police spokeswoman Delila Huerta said State Trooper Joe Garcia, 26, of Algonquin, was on patrol northbound along Route 47 just before 1 p.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle and clipped the rear of a van traveling in front of him. The contact with the van sent the trooper into a ditch, Huerta said.

Huerta said the trooper was taken to Centegra Medical Center in Woodstock with minor scrapes and scratches. Garcia remained in hospital Thursday afternoon, but was expected to be released Thursday night.

State police made contact with the van driver, a 66-year-old man from Island Lake, who said he was unaware that he had been involved in an accident. He reported no injuries and only minor damage to the white work van he was driving.

Huerta said no citations had been issued.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident.
