Briefs: Prosecutor tapped as new judge

A 10-year DuPage County prosecutor with a history of protecting children has been named a DuPage County associate judge. The county's 16 circuit judges selected Liam C. Brennan to fill the vacancy created when Judge Thomas H. Riggs retired. Brennan, who became a lawyer in 1993, currently serves as supervisor of the office's child abuse/domestic violence unit. His installation ceremony will be Oct. 16.

Marine band in Wheaton

The Marine Band San Diego will perform a free concert at 6 p.m. today, Sept. 25, at the bandshell in Wheaton's Memorial Park, 208 W. Union Ave. The group will play patriotic, classical, current and jazz music.

Flood debris removal ongoing

Since this month's storm and flooding, 1,350 cubic yards of debris have been removed and disposed of in Carol Stream. Village residents who delayed removing flood debris from their homes at the request of their insurance carrier still can schedule special collections by calling Flood Brothers Disposal Co. at (630) 261-0400. Residents must place their flood-damaged property at the parkway behind the curb before making the request. A truck will respond within 24 hours.

Fence to be erected along railroad tracks

The Villa Park board voted this week to hire Peerless Fence Co. in West Chicago to install heavy-duty fencing along the Union Pacific Railroad tracks between Addison Road and Ardmore Avenue. The $110,005 cost includes removal of existing fencing. State grants are funding $60,000, village officials have said.

Documentary on Century Walk

Artwork on Naperville's Century Walk will be featured in "Moments in Time," a new documentary on Naperville Community Television. The half-hour documentary will debut at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, on Channel 17 and stream at NCTV17.com. It also may be viewed at 1:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Saturday, and 5 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Additional times will be listed in the weekly programming schedule found at NCTV17.com.

District 13 board opening

Bloomingdale School District 13 is accepting applications for a seat on the school board to begin in late October. Board member Patricia Bach this week resigned the seat she's held since 1997. Qualified candidates must be at least 18, a U.S. citizen, a registered voter and a district resident for at least one year. To apply, send a letter of interest and resume to the secretary of the board in care of Kathy Ogden, 164 S. Euclid Ave., Bloomingdale, IL, 60108.
