Board to mull class sizes

The Mundelein High School board will meet Tuesday, Sept. 23, to discuss class sizes, a recent audit and other information. It's also the first meeting since administrators announced the cancellation of Spirit Day, initially set for Wednesday, because of previous student disciplinary problems on that day. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the school, 1350 W. Hawley St.

Dist. 128 to talk strategic plan

The Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 board will discuss its strategic plan and other issues tonight at Vernon Hills High, 145 N. Lakeview Parkway. The meeting is set for 7 p.m.

Trees, furniture on agenda

The Lincolnshire village board tonight is expected to approve the purchase of trees for the North Park Athletic Facility and office furniture for village hall, among other decisions. The meeting is set to begin at 7 p.m. today at village hall, 1 Olde Half Day Road. The trees would come from Beeson's McHenry County Nursery and cost about $31,381, according to village documents. The furniture would come from a company called Inscape and cost nearly $16,454.

Food need growing

The Northwest Suburban United Way is sponsoring a food drive beginning today and running through Friday, Sept. 26, to aid local food banks that have seen a big increase in demand because of a worsening economy and changes in the food stamp program. Nonperishable food items, infant supplies, personal hygiene items and paper goods can be donated at locations including Vernon Township, 3050 N. Main St., Buffalo Grove.
