White, Antioch chill Mundelein

A few people from Mundelein High School may place a phone call to the National Weather Service to report the extreme conditions at Antioch High School on Friday night.

Oh, the temperature was fine - in the 70s on 70s night at the school.

There were only a few clouds for Antioch's Senior Night. No big deal.

But they did experience a White Out of sorts.

Antioch standout running back Cameron White, who along with his teammates, gave the Mustangs shivers in a 49-8 Sequoits victory in this North Suburban Conference crossover.

White started the blizzard of 49 unanswered first-half points for Antioch (4-0) by taking a short pass to the right from quarterback Matt Romani 38 yards for an opening-drive score.

It snowballed in the second quarter when White took the first plays of two separate drives to the end zone, a 36-yard screen pass and a 52-yard run right before half time.

"We played as a team," said White, who finished with 96 yards rushing and 101 yards receiving. "Our blocks were crisp today. We just made it happen."

Crisp blocks also made life easier for Romani (4-5, 139 yards). He got into the act by throwing a 38-yard touchdown pass to Davonte Miller.

"That was probably the best passing protection that I have had all season," Romani said. "I know I don't throw that much but it means a lot to them (the offensive line). They really try hard."

Romani added a 2-yard scoring run, and the Sequoits' defense put up a score as Alex Pechauer intercepted Mundelein quarterback Brian Santiago and took it 33 yards.

Mundelein (0-4) did get on the scoreboard in the second half as running back Mike Matranga (5 carries, 20 yards) rushed for a 2-yard touchdown. Santiago then converted a 2-point pass to Mike Gerton. Brandon Aranda was the Mustangs' leading rusher with 52 yards on 9 carries.

Antioch coach Brian Glashagel was very pleased with the effort.

"This was outstanding tonight. This just shows the efforts that this team has been giving all season."

The Sequoits also know what lies ahead in their battle next Saturday at Wauconda.

"Tough defense." White said. "They'll swarm the ball fast and hopefully we can pull out the win."
