Ribs free for tasting at new Famous Dave's in Algonquin
The folks at Famous Dave's are hoping to get your mouth watering for their barbecue even before their new restaurant opens along Randall Road in Algonquin next month.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, they'll be holding a free rib tasting in the Wal-Mart parking lot, across Randall from the restaurant.
From noon until the ribs run out, the restaurant will be cooking up ribs on their grills in the parking lot, and letting the community get a good taste in anticipation of the restaurant's Oct. 13 opening.
Anyone can stop by to taste the ribs and also learn a little more about the restaurant, said Brett Rainwater, the Chicago area director for Famous Dave's.
"It's just basically a way to get our name out there in the community so people know that we're coming," Rainwater said. "We'll get a flavor in their mouth that they'll love.
"People can also ask us questions about our restaurant and our catering menu, and get some free bones and maybe some free sausage too," he said.
If you happen to miss this weekend's tasting, or maybe don't get enough of the free ribs to satisfy your craving, Famous Dave's will be doing it again on Saturday, Oct. 4.
The official ribbon cutting for the restaurant, which is opening in the Galleria, will start at 10:45 a.m. on the 13th.
It's a bird: I've had a few creative ideas from some of you out there about what else that sculpture at Randall and Algonquin roads looks like.
To Jennifer Fluck of Crystal Lake, who travels via Randall Road to work in Elgin, it looks like a bird. She says the bird has its "head down and tail up - as if it's searching for a worm in the grass. Of course, it has no feet."
It could be: Maryann Giuarto of Algonquin has heard the rumor and so have several others of you out there that Stein Mart is looking to locate in Algonquin, specifically in the Galleria.
Though the folks at Stein Mart haven't commented yet, officials in Algonquin say they have met with the company.
However, Katherine Parkhurst, the village's senior planner, said Algonquin has no formal applications from Stein Mart at this time.
"We have talked to them in the past about various locations that may be appropriate for their store," she said.
