Briefs: Park commissioner injured

Streamwood Park District Commissioner Rich Janiec was reportedly doing well and recovering in the Intensive Care Unit of St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates Friday after having been struck in the side of the head by a golf ball at the Streamwood Chamber of Commerce's 22nd annual golf outing in Elgin Wednesday. Chamber Executive Director Susan Berg said Janiec was in good spirits, receiving visitors and expecting to be released Monday. He'd been standing about 20 yards away and at about a 90-degree angle from the intended direction of the golfer who was at the tee, Berg said. He went down, but did not lose consciousness. He was taken to the hospital as precautionary measure.
