Briefs: Special Fremont Twp.meeting
Fremont Township trustees hosts a special meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11 to determine resident interest in contracting with a waste disposal hauler for the collection, disposal and composting and/or recycling of refuse in all unincorporated areas. Walter S. Wallis, executive director of the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County, will make a presentation at the meeting at the town hall, 22376 W. Erhart Road, Mundelein.
Candidate sought for vacancy
The Diamond Lake School District 76 school board is seeking candidates to fill an immediate board vacancy. The school board must appoint the new member, who will serve out the term until April 2009. The candidate must be U.S. citizens, 18 years or older, a District 76 resident for at least one year and a registered voter to qualify. Board to discuss ethnic issues
The Mundelein High School District 120 board will meet today to discuss the ethnic breakdown of students participating in extracurricular activities and clubs, among other issues. The meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the school, 1350 W. Hawley St.
Meeting about concussions
Neurosurgeon Dr. Dean Karahalios and athletic trainer Amy Ingraffia will talk about the dangers and warning signs of concussions on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at the Libertyville Sports Complex, 1950 Route 45. Walk to conquer Chiari
The Conquer Chiari Walk Across America is set for 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20. Money raised goes toward grants to improve awareness, diagnosis and treatment of Chiari malformation, a little-known neurological disorder that can cause debilitating pain, weakness, memory loss, numbness, vision problems and other symptoms. The event takes place at the Deer Grove East Forest Preserve, Hicks and Dundee roads, Palatine. Any donation is welcome, but walkers are encouraged to raise $100. Buckle up your kids
Lake Zurich Police, the Illinois Department of Transportation/Division of Traffic Safety and AAA will conduct the second annual "National Seat Check Saturday" on Sept. 20. As part of National Child Passenger Safety Week, certified technicians will be available to provide free on-site child safety seat inspections from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Lake Zurich Wal-Mart. Checkpoints across the state are sponsored by IDOT/DTS, AAA, Evenflo and Illinois Safe Kids. Illinois law requires child safety seat or booster seat use up to age 8.
