Briefs: Dist 79 board vacancy filled

The Fremont Elementary District 79 school board appointed Eric Dahlinger to fill a board vacancy. Dahlinger will take over the seat vacated by Eileen LeFevre, who resigned in June for personal reasons. Four candidates were interviewed for the position, which expires in April 2009. "(Dahlinger) brings a lot of experience to the board from the business sector," school board president Susan Steffenhagen said. Dahlinger, of Hawthorn Woods, is an owner and vice-president of sales and marketing for Micro-Imaging Solutions, LLC. District 79 is a kindergarten through eighth grade district serving 2,163 students in the communities of Mundelein, Wauconda, Hawthorn Woods, Grayslake, Ivanhoe, Round Lake, Round Lake Park, Long Grove and Libertyville.

Chef Jonathan Bean will demonstrate cooking techniques from around the world in community education classes at Vernon Hills High School this fall. Dancenter North seeks gymnasts for Nutcracker:

Dancenter North will hold auditions at 4 p.m. Sept. 28 to seek gymnasts to take part in its 20th anniversary production of "The Magic of the Nutcracker." Auditions will take place at the studio, 540 N. Milwaukee Ave., downtown Libertyville. The production is seeking gymnasts no taller than 5 feet who must be able to perform round-offs, back walk-overs and handstands. Gymnasts should bring a current school photo to the audition. The Magic of the Nutcracker will be performed Dec. 6 and 7 at Libertyville High School and Dec. 13 and 14 at the Genesee Theatre in Waukegan. For information, call Dancenter North at (847) 367-7970.
