Pool season slides to an end
After months of water-splashing fun, the pool season is nearing an end.
This summer, thousands of children, teens, friends and families enjoyed the many pools throughout DuPage County communities.
Some, like Bloomingdale Park District's pool, had special events including paddle boat races, Olympic Games and a pool party during National Night Out.
Anita Escalante, Bloomingdale Park District's director of marketing and communication said this year's attendance records prove that those things are popular.
"Those events went over really well with residents," she said. "It also gave us an opportunity to promote recreation programs as a whole, as opposed to just aquatics."
The newest facility in the area this year was Roselle Park District's pool.
Kemmerling Park and Pool reopened in June after a $5.1 million renovation. This summer marked the first time since 2001 that residents could enjoy the pool. The park had a pool from 1970 to 2001, but in 2001 the pool had major structural damage and the park closed. It took three tries before Roselle residents approved a $1.8 million tax increase to revamp the park and pool in 2006.
Centennial Beach in Naperville had a new, tall slide located in the shallow end of the pool.
Labor Day is the traditional end of the swimming season.
