Lake Co. briefs

Arraignment delayed:

The arraignment of one of two former campaign workers for State Sen. Terry Link was delayed Wednesday in Lake County circuit court. Kenneth Davison, 50, of Waukegan, is charged with forgery and perjury for allegedly falsifying signatures on petitions to place Link's name on the ballot. Associate Judge Christopher Stride appointed private counsel for Davison because the county public defender's office already represents Davison's co-defendant, Jerry Knight, 40, of Zion, in another matter. Stride rescheduled Davison's arraignment for Sept. 17. Knight, who faces the same charges, is in police custody in St. Paul, Minn., and is expected to be back in Lake County on Friday. Both men face a maximum of five years in prison if convicted.

Sanitary district awards:

Two North Shore Sanitary District facilities have been recognized by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies. The Waukegan facility earned the gold award and the Gurnee facility received the silver designation. The NAWCA's Peak Performance Awards recognize a facility's compliance with its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination permit, which is administered by the state Environmental Protection Agency. The North Shore district operates more than 100 miles of sewer lines and pumping stations.

Cops to boost patrols:

Mundelein police will conduct special patrols over the Labor Day weekend to crack down on drunken driving, authorities announced. To keep drunken drivers off the roads, police urged people hosting Labor Day parties to designate sober drivers, arrange safe rides and keep numbers for local taxi companies handy.

Boy Scout collects flags to retire:

Brad Gordon, a Boy Scout with Troop 79 out of Long Grove and a senior at Stevenson High School, is collecting and retiring worn and tattered American flags in a ceremony as part of his Eagle project to earn rank of Eagle Scout. He has set up collection boxes at What A Spectacle in Arlington Heights, Vernon Area Public Library, Buffalo Grove Village Hall, Buffalo Grove Police Department, all three Buffalo Grove fire stations, Congregation Beth Am, Zimmerman True Value, Long Grove fire station and Long Grove Village Hall. Gordon hopes to collect at least 300 flags. The flag retiring ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Oct. 5 at the AMVETS Post 66, 700 McHenry Road, Wheeling. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony.
