Special ceremony held in Grayslake

Chinmaya Mission Yamunotri in Grayslake will host a Sri Radha-Krishna Moorti Sthapana, a special ceremony in Hinduism where sacred images and idols are formally installed in temples, Thursday through Saturday. All families are invited to participate, get to know about the mission activities, and see what the center has to offer. Events are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Yamunotri is located at 30877 N. Fairfield Road, Grayslake.

Contestants wanted for 'Mundelein Idol'

The Mundelein High School show choirs are looking for talented singers from throughout northeastern Illinois to take part in "Mundelein Idol," a talent contest based on the show "American Idol." The event will take place in the Mundelein High School auditorium on Oct. 4. The deadline for application is Sept. 24. Contestants may be from any community.

The competition will feature 16 singers of any age; if more than 16 enter the contest, a preliminary round will take place on Sept. 27. Contestants may sing any style of music they choose but must provide a CD with karaoke tracks for three different songs. No song may be more than four minutes long. The winner will be determined by audience vote. Prizes will be $400 and a trophy for first place prize, $50 for second place and $25 for third.

Local student wins pageant title

Grayslake North High School senior Summer Zwicke was crowned Miss Lake County Fair Queen this summer. Zwicke, who has participated in pageants since she was 7, is a former Junior Miss Lake Villa, Junior Teen of Illinois and National All American.

Zwicke is a member of the National Honor Society, Tri-M Music Honor Society, Link Crew, choir and tennis. Her duties as queen will have her meeting other county queens, appearing in parades around the state and presiding at the opening of new stores or restaurants.

When asked why she felt she won the competition this year, Zwicke said"I think my love for my community really came through and the judges saw that. They are looking for genuineness."
