LHS Poms Car Wash: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Aug. 9, Ace Hardware, 155 Peterson Road, Libertyville. The Libertyville High School Varsity and JV Poms Squads will hold a car wash. Proceeds will offset choreography, costumes and other expenses throughout the 2008-09 season.

MS Slugfest: 8 a.m. Aug. 9, Mt. Greenwood Park, 3724 W. 11th Street, Chicago. Teams from Chicago and the suburbs compete in softball tournament to raise funds for Multiple Sclerosis. (800) 344-4867.

Gurnee Ribfest: 11 a.m. Aug. 9, Viking Park, 4374 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee. The Breakfast Exchange Club of Gurnee Ribfest fundraiser to help in child abuse prevention and other club activities. A variety of food, drinks and treats available throughout the day starting at 11 a.m. Rib-Eating Contest at 3 p.m. followed by traditional Ribfest dinner. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. Entry fee of $20 per driver and rider and poker hand. $250 winning hand. $5 per person for a barbecue and music by Bullfrog at 4 p.m. after the poker run.
