Register for Park District preschool
Registration is now available for Schaumburg Park District Preschool for the 2008-09 school year. The Schaumburg Park District preschool is accredited by the National Academy for the Education of Young Children.
Registration is taken at the Pat Shephard Center only and requires a completed form, birth certificate, proof of residency, a $25 nonrefundable registration fee and a $50 deposit.
Children who are eligible for the 4-year old classes will enter kindergarten in 2009, and must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2008. Children who are eligible for the 3-year old classes and will enter kindergarten in 2010, must be 3 years old by Sept. 1, 2008. These ages hold true unless stated otherwise in program description. Community invited to attend meeting
Schaumburg Township Disability Services, AgeOptions (The Suburban Area Agency on Aging) and Progress Center for Independent Living will host a representation meeting from 1:30- 3:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at Schaumburg Township, 1 Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates.
The community, local advisory council members, support group members and those with interest in the needs of older adults and persons with disabilities are invited to attend the discussion on the development of a suburban aging and disability resource center and to make recommendations for future directions on the project.
Refreshments will be served. Interested parties must R.S.V.P. to Schaumburg Township at (847) 884-0030, ext. 2025. If special accommodations are needed, please call the township one week before the event.
The Township serves residents in portions of Elk Grove, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Schaumburg, and Streamwood, as well as some unincorporated areas of Cook County.
New U-46 Educational Foundation announced
For the past two years, a group of community leaders and volunteers have been organizing an education foundation for District U-46. The public announcement of the new foundation came July 23, when the foundation board hosted a reception for the new U-46 superintendent, Dr. Jose M. Torres at the Elgin Country Club.
The foundation's president Sue Rakow of Elgin introduced board member comprised of 13 volunteers, two Board of Education representatives and the superintendent as an ex officio member.
The new foundation will support comprehensive projects that benefit the district as a whole, with five primary area of interest: academic enrichment, professional development, the arts, cultural enrichment and technology enhancement. The board is organized into various committees and will initiate fundraising through individual and corporate donations.
The board reflects the many communities that comprise U-46 as some members are residents or business owners in Bartlett, Elgin, Hanover Park, Hoffman Estates, South Elgin and Streamwood.
