Kathryn Baumgartner of Barrington graduated with distinction, with a 4.0 G.P.A., from DePaul University, receiving a master's degree in elementary education and a Type 03 teaching certificate. In the fall, Baumgartner will teach seventh and eighth grade language arts in Glenview's School District 34.

• Lewis Buxbaum, son of Jack and Jo Buxbaum of Palatine, was named to Roosevelt University's dean's list for the spring semester 2008. He is a junior majoring in psychology.

• Emily Goodman, daughter of Patricia and Bruce Goodman of Barrington was named to the dean's list of Macalester College, St. Paul, Minn., for academic achievement during the spring semester of the 2007-2008 school year.

• Laila Grainawi of Palatine, daughter of Jamal Grainawi and Lom Grainawi, graduated May 19, with a bachelor of fine arts degree in general sculpture studies from the Maryland Institute of College of Art, Baltimore, Md.

• Rachel K. Hacker of Palatine, daughter of Merrill and Kay Hacker, earned a bachelor of science degree, magna cum laude and dean's list honors, from Bradley University, Peoria. Hacker, a 2005 graduate of Palatine High School, will begin classes this fall to pursue a master's degree at the University of Chicago.

• David Keyes, son of Dewey and Debbie Keyes of Elk Grove Village, graduated May 3 from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, with a bachelor's degree in exercise science and kinesiology. Keyes is a 2003 graduate of Conant High School, Hoffman Estates.

• Taylor Louise Kowalewski, daughter of Tim and Sue Kowalewski of Streamwood, recently finished her freshman year at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. Kowalewski's academic success during the fall 2007 and the spring 2008 terms, placed her on the dean's list. In April, she was also inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta, a national academic honor society for freshmen.

• Katherine Lee of Palatine, daughter of James E. Lee and Debra A. Lee, was named tot he dean's list of Emory College, Atlanta, Ga., for the spring 2008 semester.

• Kristin Maki, daughter of Sam and Cheryl Maki of Palatine, graduated cum laude from Augustana College in Rock Island May 25, with a bachelor of arts degree in English and history, with minors in Spanish and psychology. Kristin is a 2004 graduate of William Fremd High School.

• Kathleen M. Schmid, currently a junior at Hope College in Holland, Mich., was named to the dean's list for the 2008 spring semester of the 2007-08 school year. To qualify, students must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Katie is the daughter of Ray and Karen Schmid of Hoffman Estates and a 2006 graduate of Barrington High School.

• Steven M. Stanchuk, son of Steve and Diane Stanchuk of Barrington, achieved dean's list status at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, for the spring semester of

the 2007-2008 school year. Stanchuk graduated on May 17, with a bachelor's degree in pre-med/biology. He is a 2004 graduate of Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein.

• Erik Ward of Barrington, son of Kevin Ward and Karen G. Ward, was named to the dean's list of Emory College, Atlanta, Ga., for the 2008 spring semester.

• Amanda Catherine Wojnowski, daughter of Steven and Rita Wojnowski of Hoffman Estates, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a minor in Spanish from Winona State University, Winona, Minn. Amanda was secretary of the Sigma Delta Pi, a Spanish honor society and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, an education honor society. Amanda is a 2004 graduate of William Fremd High School.
