Briefs: Gunshot under investigation
Schaumburg police are still investigating a July 2 incident in which a man with a handgun reportedly shot at but missed a group of male friends in an apartment building on the 2300 block of Discovery Drive. The incident began at about 7:50 p.m. when one of the victims was called on his cell phone by his mother, who warned him he was being followed by a group of males as he walked toward the apartment building. He ran upstairs to join his friends there, but was followed inside by the man with the gun. One shot did pass through a victim's shirt collar but did not hit his body. The only injury to one of the victims was caused when the offender struck him on the leg with a golf club. The victim was found hiding in a laundry room closet in an apartment building on the 2200 block of Pennview Lane and transported to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates for treatment.

Lift station controversy continues:
Long Grove officials refused to talk about the controversial lift station on Checker Road at their Tuesday board meeting after a special meeting was held last week at which the board decided it would stick with construction at that location. Village President Maria Rodriguez said the board went back to look at all the options for the lift station, which is needed for the Menards development, and decided the Checker Road spot would be the most appropriate. "We have finished taking public comment," she said. "There is no compelling reason to ask them to move from that site." However, neighbors said the village is not taking concerns of safety seriously. The lift station would be placed near an S-curve, residents said, and would be a hazard for drivers.
Driver injured in crash:
The driver of a van that flipped over about 3 p.m. Tuesday in a traffic accident at Rand and Mount Prospect roads in Mount Prospect was taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment of injuries that didn't appear life threatening, Mount Prospect police said. The silver van was headed southeast on Rand Road when it ran a red light and was clipped on the rear passenger side by a car northbound on Mount Prospect Road, police said.
