Briefs: Raffle for Heroes

Grand Realty Group in Fox Lake and Dog 'N' Suds will raffle off an iPod and other items the night of the Fox Lake fireworks, scheduled to take place on July 5. The raffle will be at Dog 'N' Suds at the corner of Rollins Road and Washington Street in Fox Lake. The money raised will go to benefit Illinois military servicemen and women, as well as police and fire officers, with home-related expenses. The raffle will take place during the classic car show, which kicks off at 6:30 p.m.

Lions help flood victims

The Mount Prospect Lions Club and the Lake Zurich Lions Club will be collecting cleaning supplies from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday for flood victims in Moline and Quincy, Ill. Donated items will be accepted at the Mount Prospect Lions Club trailer at the north end of the club's farmers market, located at the west Metra parking lot in downtown Mount Prospect, at Elmhurst Road and Northwest Highway, and at The Lions Den, 81 E. Main St., Lake Zurich. Lions clubs in Moline and Quincy will deliver the donated items directly to people who have been affected by the recent flooding. Items most needed include brooms, mops, rubber gloves, flat-blade shovels and bleach. Other cleaning supplies are needed as well.

Crime alert in Gurnee

Gurnee police have issued a neighborhood watch crime alert for the Southridge subdivision, south of Cemetery Road and Washington Street. Police said criminal damage to property, criminal trespass to vehicle and burglary to motor vehicle occurred sometime between 3 and 5 a.m. Tuesday. At least six incidents were reported and are believed to have been committed by teenage boys all wearing white shirts. Witnesses told police the teens were spotted in the neighborhood and Southridge Park about the time the incidents happened. Police said anyone with information about the crimes may call (847) 599-7000. Anonymous tips also are accepted at Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.

Safety event set for Gurnee

Gurnee Community Safety Day is set from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Target store at 6601 Grand Ave. west of the Tri-State Tollway. Featured will be car-seat safety checks by Gurnee police and Lake County sheriff's deputies, as well as a bicycle rodeo and tune-up workshop. In addition, there will be police dog demonstrations and child identification. Information on local services will be provided to families.
