Budget draws applause
Hainesville Mayor Ted Mueller told the public that the village has put together a balanced budget, leading to some applause from some residents in the audience at the village board's June 24 meeting. Mueller added the village has only one debt, and that is the new car purchased for the police department. "Other than that, we are debt-free," he said. The public will be given the opportunity to review and discuss the budget with the board at a public hearing at the board's next meeting at 7 p.m. July 8 at village hall.
Cedar Lake Road extension
A Lake County Board committee on Wednesday gave preliminary approval to appropriate $1 million to acquire land to complete the extension of Cedar Lake Road. The county's public works and transportation committee agreed to acquire right-of-way to allow for the extension from Town Line Road to Route 120. Construction on the first part of the project, from Route 60 to Townline Road has been completed. Land acquisition is the last step before construction of the second part, which is about a mile long.
