Briefs: Gurnee residents receive alert

Gurnee Police Chief Robert Jones recently sent a letter to residents on incidents that occurred 11 days ago near a school bus stop at Abby Road and Aster Drive in the Bittersweet subdivision on the village's west side. Jones wrote that a man in a gray Hummer spoke to some children through an open window while they were at a bus stop June 10. The man never exited the vehicle, but some parents were in the area. The same vehicle was reported the next morning at the bus stop, but no children were present. Jones stated the vehicle described as the Hummer returned the morning of June 12, and an officer witnessed a man pulled over near where a boy was standing. No conversation occurred, and the boy immediately walked away, Jones said. The officer told the driver his actions were alarming, but no charges were filed. Jones wrote that the driver didn't have a criminal record. He encouraged residents to call police if they see suspicious activity.
