Briefs: District 53 fills vacancy
The school board vacancy in Butler District 53 in Oak Brook was filled by Dr. Henry Fuentes, an orthopedic surgeon. He was appointed in a unanimous vote this month following a special meeting to fill the vacancy of Tanuja Rathi, who resigned for personal reasons. Fuentes, a 12-year Oak Brook resident, has three children and the youngest will be in eighth grade at Butler Junior High School this fall. He formerly served on the board of directors for the Midwest Club subdivision, served on a District 53 advisory committee and volunteered as a coach on multiple teams in Oak Brook, Hinsdale and Downers Grove. He is a volunteer physician for the school football team in Tinley Park and since 1991 for the Illinois High School Association. His appointment begins July 1 and expires in April 2009.

Food pantry seeks fish
Loaves & Fishes Community Pantry in Naperville has plenty of loaves, but no fishes. Supplies of canned tuna and salmon are depleted, and are too expensive for the food pantry to afford at current prices. The pantry is asking area residents who may have extra canned fish in their cupboard or see a special on tuna or salmon at the grocery store to consider sharing. Donations may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays and from noon to 2 p.m. Sundays at 556 W. Fifth Ave., Naperville. For details, contact (630) 355-3663 or www.loaves-fishes.org.
