Briefs: $1,000 reward offered
A reward in the case of a sculpture stolen last month from a St. Charles art exhibit has been increased to $1,000, police said Tuesday. The reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest or the recovery of the sculpture "Winged Crawler" by Lake in the Hills artist Patricia Brutchin. The bronze piece was reported stolen May 18 from the Sculpture in the Park series at Mt. St. Mary Park in St. Charles. It stands about 18 inches tall, weighs about 75 pounds and depicts a female figure with wings. The reward was previously set at $600. 5K run for DayOne
A 5K run in St. Charles on Sept. 7 will raise money for DayOneNetwork, an organization that provides services to people with disabilities. The Run for DayOne is planned for 8 a.m. at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave. A half-mile "family walk" follows at 9 a.m. Registration by Aug. 8 is $20 for both adults taking part in the run and families participating in the walk. Fireworks in St. Charles
Fireworks, food and music will be part of this year's July 4th celebration in St. Charles. The free event starts at 6 p.m. at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Ave., with live music by Red Woody and picnic-style offerings such as hot dogs, bratwurst and ice cream. A $27,000 fireworks display begins at dark. Picnic tables will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis, but families are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets. Solstice walk in Batavia
The Kane County Forest Preserve will host a "Solstice Sunset walk" at 7:30 p.m. June 21 at the Dick Young Forest Preserve in Batavia. Participants will learn about equinoxes, solstices and seasons while looking out for wildlife and watching the sun set over the marsh. The program is free, but people are asked to register by calling (847) 741-8350. The preserve is at 39W115 Main St. in Batavia.
