Trustee says he and wife can get past arrests
Lakemoor Trustee Nick Weber says he and his wife will work together to overcome their problems, which now include arrests for a bloody domestic fight.
McHenry County Undersheriff Gene Lowery said Nick Weber, 41, and Laura Weber, 38, both of 416 N. Willow Road, were charged with one count of domestic battery for the Thursday morning fight in their home. The Webers are free on bail, with McHenry County court dates later this month.
It comes about a month after Laura Weber was charged with taking at least $22,000 from Camp Duncan YMCA near Waukegan while business manager in 2006. She has been free on a signature bond since May 15.
"We will move forward together," Nick Weber said Friday.
Weber has been a village board trustee since winning a 2-year seat 2003. He was re-elected in 2005, with commercial development and construction of a new village hall among his top issues.
He said he'll continue his 4-year trustee term, which expires in May 2009. He said his wife has been under strain because of the criminal case against her.
Nick Weber summoned Lakemoor police to the couple's house about 2 a.m. Thursday, Lowery said. The McHenry County sheriff's office was asked to assume the case because of Nick Weber's elected position and the potential conflict for village authorities, he said.
McHenry County sheriff's reports provided the following details:
An argument between Nick and Laura Weber sparked the altercation that went from the second-floor master bedroom to the main bathroom. Blood splatters were found on carpeting, tile and walls.
Nick Weber suffered a cut on his left ear and scratches on his forehead. His wife sustained a swollen nose, a cut on her right ring finger and a bruise on her right biceps.
Both Webers provided statements to police about consuming alcohol before the altercation.
During the fight, the Webers' 15-year-old daughter and two teenage friends were in the basement for a sleep-over.
Nick Weber said he and his wife will raise any questions they have with the police reports in court. He added he'll continue standing by her in the Camp Duncan YMCA theft case.
"Every family has issues," he said. "Ours is no exception. And we will continue to serve this community."
Laura Weber faces up to seven years in prison if she's convicted of stealing a minimum of $22,000 from the Camp Duncan YMCA. Lake County prosecutors said she originally was charged in 2006 with taking $600 in gift cards from the organization and received probation before her firing.
Before becoming a Lakemoor trustee, Nick Weber was a village parks and recreation advisory board volunteer from 2001 to 2003.
