Huntley chain-beating suspect still in jail

A 20-year-old Huntley man remained behind bars at the McHenry County jail Thursday after his arrest a day earlier on charges he punched two teenage women with a dog chain wrapped around his fist.

Oliver Rico, 10910 Wheatland Way, faces two counts of aggravated battery and a third count of criminal damage to property stemming from the incident Wednesday.

The battery charges, both Class 3 felonies, allege Rico struck a 17-year-old Cary girl in the head and a 19-year-old Huntley woman in the leg with the dog chain while along Haligus Road.

The criminal damage charge, a misdemeanor, alleges Rico struck a car belonging to one of the teens' family members with the dog chain, causing less than $300 damage.

There was no information available Thursday about injuries to the victims or a possible motive.

Huntley police arrested Rico at about 7:38 p.m. Wednesday, court documents state, and transferred him to the county jail, where he remained overnight. A judge set his bond at $40,000 during a brief court appearance Thursday morning.

Rico, who would face a maximum two to five years in prison if convicted on the felony charges, is scheduled to return to court June 12.
