Coleman, Beatty net track and field honors
Augustana College junior Keli Coleman (Carmel, Grayslake) and senior Jim Beatty (Antioch, Antioch) have been named to the 2008 ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District track and field teams.
Coleman and Beatty were named to the Region 5 first team and are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Coleman is a biology/pre-med major and carries a 3.80 grade point average. In addition to her Academic All-District honors, she was the Augustana women's recipient of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin's Jack Swartz Award for the 2008 winter sports season.
She's the school record holder in the 55 meters (7.08), 60 (7.81) and 200 (25.68) indoors, and the 100 meters (11.96) outdoors. She been the CCIW champion in the 55 and 100 meters each of her three seasons and earned All-American status in the 55 meters as a freshman.
Beatty carries a 3.98 GPA as a history major. He was the Augustana men's recipient from of the CCIW's Jack Swartz Award for the 2008 winter season. He was the 5,000 meter champion at the 2007 Prairie Fire Relays and took third place in the mile at the Illinois Wesleyan's Bob Keck Invitational during the 2008 indoor season.
He also finished eighth in the mile with a time of 4:22.46 at the 2008 CCIW indoor meet. During the outdoor season, he ran a leg on the 3,200 relay that took second at Augustana's Meet of Champions, and anchored the distance medley relay team that finished 16th at the Drake Relays.
Sportsmanship recognized: The North Suburban Conference instituted a new sportsmanship program for the 2007-2008 school year. During the winter athletes, cheerleaders, coaches and spectators received ratings for sportsmanship at boys and girls basketball contests.
The NSC will look to expand this program to other sports over the next two years.
Listed below are the high schools that received ratings that met or exceeded the sportsmanship criteria established by the conference.
• Boys Basketball: Lake Forest, Grant, Lake Zurich, Lakes, Libertyville, North Chicago, Mundelein, Round Lake, Stevenson, Vernon Hills, Warren, Wauconda and Zion-Benton.
• Girls Basketball: Lake Zurich, Antioch, Libertyville, Grant, Mundelein, Lakes, Stevenson, North Chicago, Warren, Round Lake, Zion-Benton, Vernon Hills and Wauconda.
Libertyville football camp: The 14th annual Wildcat Football Skills Camp will be offered to all players from the ages of 8-13. Libertyville High School head coach Randy Kuceyeski will offer this non-contact camp June 30, July 1 and July 2 at Butler Lake Park in Libertyville.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day and will be staffed by current members of the LHS coaching staff. Past and current Wildcat players will also assist in coaching. Registration is $70. For more information, please call Randy Kuceyeski at (847) 549-6149.
Libertyville football players make college commitments: Three starters on Libertyville's 2007 team have announced where they will continue their football careers.
Defensive lineman Tom Nield will play for the University of Chicago, offensive lineman Bill Fischer will head to St. Norbert University, and lineman Matt Steplyk has committed to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.
Nield made the all-conference squad last fall, while Fischer was named honorable mention.
Mundelein baseball camp: Mundelein High School will host its 15th annual baseball camp for kids from kindergarten through ninth grade.
The camp for eighth- and ninth-graders is June 9-12 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. On June 16-19, there will be camps for kindergarten through third grade (9-11 a.m.) and for fourth through seventh grade (noon-2 p.m.).

Swanson off to UW-Whitewater: It was incorrectly reported in the Daily Herald that Grant senior Jamie Swanson will play basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
She will continue her education and basketball career at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
A three-year all-area and all-conference selection, Swanson averaged 16.7 points and 5.7 rebounds her senior year for the North Suburban Prairie Division champions. She plans to study education at UW-Whitewater.
The Warhawks finished third in the nation in NCAA Division III last season, posting a 29-4 record under head coach Keri Carollo.
