Police get grant money
The Lake Zurich Police Department will receive a $211,500 federal grant Monday from U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean for construction of its firing range. The presentation ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the Lake Zurich police station, 200 Mohawk Trail. The federal grant, signed into law this year as part of the FY 2008 Consolidated Appropriations Act, will allow the department to complete construction of its firing range, which it has sought for years. Currently, officers from Lake Zurich and neighboring departments drive to Wisconsin for firearms training, which adds to travel and overtime costs. Police departments throughout the area will be able to use the Lake Zurich Police Department range for training purposes.
